Our Land

The journey began as a quest to find a new family home that would provide a break from the busy city life, in a sanctuary where multiple generations could live in harmony with nature and pursue a common purpose.

After a fortunate Google search, a phone call, and a subsequent flight, we found ourselves in Cadiar, a charming village nestled among the majestic, snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada, Spain. Here we discovered La Noria – or perhaps La Noria discovered us?

La Noria is a historic Spanish family estate, hidden within a secluded canyon, surrounded by dramatic rock formations, with hundreds of ancient olive and almond trees, natural springs and a lush oak forests that serve as a haven for diverse wildlife. Elevated on ancient terrace structures that date back to Moorish times, the estate's majestic olive trees bask in abundant sunlight, breathe in fresh ocean breezes from the Mediterranean, and flourish in the crisp mountain climate.

The name "La Noria" stems from its unique feature—year-round access to natural spring water. The Spanish word “Noria” refers to a hydro powered scoop wheel historically used to lift water into small aqueducts, providing essential water supplies to villages and irrigation for fields. The canyon used to be a strong river and throughout the estate, visitors can still find remnants of these ancient water systems. The water source still holds today, with pristine mountain water trickling from the rocks and multiple natural water springs on our farm, providing life to the farm, its trees and animals.

La Cortijo de la Noria was once run by a big farmers family in the region and farming wine, animals, olives and vegetables. With the tides of time, it was abanonded and lay untouched for decades. After discovering this hidden gem, we have taken it as our mission to breathe new life into the estate and restore it to its former glory and natural beauty. We are currently renovating the old farm house and structures, with the mission to stay as close to its traditional building methods and architecture as possible.

Located in the Alpujarras, a secluded and historic mountain range that overlooks the ocean toward the shores of Morocco, this region features glaciers reaching elevations of up to 3,500 meters above sea level. The Alpujarras is celebrated for its picturesque, whitewashed mountain villages, which embody a harmonious blend of Spanish and Moorish architecture and culture. The Alpujareños, some of the kindest and happiest people we have ever encountered, live in symbiosis with nature, valuing traditional craftsmanship and cherishing their local community. Every year, villagers come together from near and far to harvest fields, tend to flocks, and support one another until the work is complete.

With the help of our neighbours from Cadiar, we embarked on our journey of producing organic olive oil, drawing upon a wealth of knowledge accumulated over generations. The generosity, passion, and love for nature possessed by the Alpujareños are reflected in every drop of La Noria Olive Oil.
